Most people in today's society are a frequent online shopper. We get packages weekly, if not daily. The convenience of shopping online also comes with a cost. With so many packages arriving at our doorstep, there is a risk of packages getting stolen. According to a survey by Shorr Packaging Corp., 31 per cent of respondents have had a package stolen from their doorstep (Shorr).
The nightmare of mine came true for a friend. Gary, is a trusted friend that I met when I started collecting,
Gary gets his rare and expensive cards graded through PSA. The packages from PSA can stand out due to the weight and sender address. One day, Gary notices a package was missing after it was delivered 10 minutes ago. Luckily, he has set up RING, a motion sensor camera. It turned out a UPS truck driver was following the USPS mail truck. He was familiar with the PSA company and the cards involved so he was quick to swipe the package. Lucky, Gary had a friend who was a cop. A report was made and the cop went to UPS to confront the thief at UPS the same day and retrieved the package that was in the thief's locker.
Advice I recommend is sign up for text and/or email alerts for expensive packages. It will send an instant message once package has been delivered. Affix security-camera, that records at least in 1080 p and have nighttime function, towards the areas that packages are dropped off to capture the faces of visitors and their vehicles. Keep in mind that thieves may wear hats or a hoodie. Even though Gary has many other security cameras set up, as well as stickers mentioning that there is a camera, the thief was completely oblivious.
